Happy Dussehra To You From DIDM

Wishing you a very Happy Dussehra from the Delhi Institute of Digital Marketing.

The festival of Dussehra is one of those things we look forward to all year and get highly excited about when it approaches.

We start making Ravana's dummy a month in advance, and sometimes more than a month in advance because we get so excited about it.

The festival of Dusshera lets us remember our childhood when we used to make the dummy of Ravana ourselves with so much fondness and love, filling it with firecrackers so that when we burn the dummy, it makes one hell of a noise.

This is why the festival of Dussehra is highly popular, it is because it triggers our emotions and lets us remember the joyous moments that we earlier had.

The Story Behind Dussehra

The other name for Dussehra is Vijayadashami which means victory on the tenth day. This symbolized Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana after a ten-day fight in his kingdom ‘Lanka’.

Around somewhat 7000 years ago, the king of Lanka ‘Ravana’ started a brawl with ‘Lord Rama’ who was the prince of Ayodhya at that time by kidnapping his wife ‘Mata Sita’ and taking her with him to Lanka.

This shook Lord Rama and he decided to go to Ravana’s kingdom in Lanka to give Ravana a defeat and take Mata Sita back.

He then made a decision to go forward to Ravana’s place with his brother Lakshmana and divine vanar companion Hanuman.

Due to Lord Rama’s godly demeanor and Hanuman Ji's presence, a large number of monkeys also joined them on their way to Lanka.

In just a period of ten days, Lord Rama defeated Ravana and returned Sita Mata to his abode with the help of these little number of living beings around him.

The victory day of Lord Rama over Ravana is today most popularly known as the day of Dusshera.

In what ways do we Indian people celebrate Dussehra?

As we mentioned earlier, Dussehra is one of those important Indian festivals that a large number of people celebrate altogether.

However, the difference is, for all the other important festivals like Diwali and Holi, people celebrate in an equivalent way but the way of celebrating Dussehra among Indian people differs from town to town and state to state.

Here are the two ways in which people celebrate the festival of Dussehra:

Ram Leela

Have you ever heard any famous Bollywood actor going back in flashback and telling the world that he used to work in Ramleela?

This is what it is. In a Ramleela, people of all ages come together to choose their characters for Ramleela and play them on stage.

This play continues for ten days in front of the public and on the tenth day it gets over when Lord Rama ends the game of Ravana.

Burning The Ravana

Most Indian citizens choose to celebrate Dussehra by lighting up Ravana’s dummy and burning it. They do it to celebrate the victory of good over evil.

Some people burn just the dummy of Ravana while others burn ‘Ravana’, his brother ‘Kumbhkarna’, and his son ‘Meghnad’.

This Dussehra, we wish that you use the best weapon to defeat the evils that prevail in society and that weapon is education. Happy Dussehra To You Once Again.
