Homes are filled with the aroma of sesame (til) and jaggery sweets. Plates of chikkis and laddoos are exchanged with neighbours and relatives.
There’s a beautiful Marathi saying:
“Til-gud ghya, ani god-god bola”
(Eat sesame and jaggery, and speak sweet words.)
And truly, that’s what this festival teaches — sweetness in speech, warmth in behaviour, and kindness in action.
People also donate food, clothes, and essentials to the less fortunate, reminding us that true celebration lies in sharing.
